Who better to ask about staying true to who you are than an Old Soul? This morning, I chatted with Mike Schmidt, owner of Old Soul Brewing in Fort Myers, Florida — a brewery full of stories, family and soul, hidden behind the corner of US-41 and Boy Scout. At the onset of their 3rd year anniversary, I couldn’t say how to stay true to who you are better than Mike in this 15 minute podcast.

Interested in the key takeaways?

Know your core values.

Write them down, memorize them, live them. You are faced with decisions every day of your life — as a business owner and as a human being. The choices you make send signals to others, and to yourself, about who you are and what you’re about. Make sure the messages your consumers are receiving is the same message your business means to send.

Check yourself, authentically.

Before you make a decision on anything, ask yourself, “Is this a good fit for my business? Does this align with our core values?” If you have to pause for more than about 5 seconds before answering, ask yourself if you’re being true to yourself and your team.

Reflect.

Fact: we’re human. There will be times when we are so true to our brand — and, there will be times when we stray and have to get back on track. To that, I say, if you haven’t failed, you haven’t tried. Good luck and Good night.
